IIT Kanpur Mourns the Loss of Beloved Professor Sameer Khandekar: A Tragic End During Alumni Meet
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur recently faced a tragic loss with the sudden demise of Professor Sameer Khandekar, who was the dean of student affairs and the head of the mechanical engineering department. Professor Khandekar passed away due to cardiac arrest while delivering a speech during an alumni meet at the university.
Professor Khandekar was 53 years old at the time of his passing. The incident occurred in the institute’s auditorium, where he collapsed while addressing the gathering. It was reported that before the incident, he was discussing ways to maintain good health, with some of his last words to the students being an advice to “take care of your health.”
Unfortunately, during his lecture, Professor Khandekar suddenly felt uneasy and experienced severe chest pain, followed by profuse sweating, before collapsing on the stage. He was immediately taken to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
The news of his passing has shocked and saddened the entire IIT Kanpur community. Professor Khandekar was known for his contributions as an outstanding teacher and researcher. He had been diagnosed with high cholesterol levels about five years prior to this incident.
The loss of Professor Khandekar is a significant one for the institution, as he was a respected and beloved figure on campus. His sudden demise has left a void in the hearts of many at IIT Kanpur. The final rites were planned to be performed after the arrival of his only son, Pravah Khandekar, who is studying at Cambridge University.
